This song is the lead single off of their self-titled debut album, which will be released with Whatever’s Clever Records on November 21st, 2019. The songs first started off as little beats made out of micro-samples of piano and keyboard licks. Then, co-writer Alice Tolan-Mee e-mailed back and forth melody ideas to put on top of those beats. After years of slow deliberation, they met together at The Cabbage School, an alternative school in Leicester, NC, to record everything. “Like most of the songs on the record, the lyrics are about two conflicting narratives, two voices describing two sides of the same night, best represented in the call and response of “I deserve nothing,” and “I don’t deserve this”. The music video depicts a glitchy Facetime session, a play on the title Face Forward, in which we wander through both of our equally disheveled apartments.” they said about the single.
Hyperion Drive is an electronic band of settings, a singing duo of dreamed up places at the edge of a flattened Earth – their music comes from a verdant holler nestled deep in the mountains, it comes from a sheet-metal-walled former auto garage underneath the Manhattan Bridge, it comes from a tiny clapboard house in a stony New England field, it comes from a Pacific shoreline. Or, rather, the music lives transmissions between these settings, in echoes and emails, in drum machine radio signals ever bouncing out and up into a deep dark universe, as much about outer space as the space between two people.
