Following the release of their debut EP, Ontario duo Kadeema has released a cover of Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing” to kick off a string of covers through the fall. The track sounds like a rock classic with its infectious guitar melody that hits hard during the chorus and softly during the verses. The piano that sits in the back really brings a retro sound to this. His vocals have a retro rock sound mixed with a modern sound as he sings and hits the notes needed to make this cover great but also makes it his own. The guitar solo towards the end really adds something magical to this track.
“This cover was an idea that popped into our head at a time where both of us were experiencing the end of a very significant era in our lives. Separately, we went through a fair share of trials and tribulations, but we were both able to come out stronger at the other end of it. To feel like you’re still standing, better than you ever did, was a sentiment we felt very strongly about at the time so it was an easy choice. It’s also such an amazing song by one of greatest to ever do it. Why not pay tribute in our own way to the Rocket Man himself?”
Released earlier this summer, Kadeema’s debut eight song EP Napoleon Tornapart is a tongue-in-cheek collection of rock songs that range from empowering to reflective, capturing the ups and downs of day-to-day life. It’s available now on your streaming platform of choice. Are you rocking with this cover? Let me know by leaving your feedback below.
